Baseball Betting Lines For Today

Baseball betting lines can be quite tricky if you do not understand how the odds system works. Therefore, we'd like to take a little timeout to discuss the 'money line' in which betting MLB baseball revolves around.

First off, a money line is not a point spread. Therefore, to win a bet in baseball against the money line all your team has to do is win the game. Sounds easy right? Well, it would be if weren't for the odds makers. They have designed a way in order to make bettors shy away from betting on the Yankees every time they play another weak American League Team, they do this through the MLB baseball betting lines.

But let's say for example purposes; the Yankees have a tough game with the Boston Red Sox. Mike Mussina is on the mound for the Yanks and Curt Schilling is pitching for Boston. The odds makers have made The Red Sox a -135 favorite. What this means is that sports bettors wagering on the Red Sox have to risk $1.35 to win $1.00. If the Red Sox win, the bettor takes home his wager amount of $1.00. If the Yankees win, the bettor loses $1.35 because Boston was in fact the favorite. However, we are not done yet. Let's examine the situation from the perspective of someone betting on the Yankees.

It is common for sports books to offer what is called a 20 cent betting line. This indicates that the Yankees would not be +135 they would only be +115. This is utilized by the book makers in order to split the action evenly on both teams and still make a profit. If the Yankees win the game, you would win $1.15 for every $1.00 that you have risked. If the Yankees lose, you yourself would only lose the amount you have risked or $1.00 in this example.

I know it sounds complicated but it's not too tricky once you get the hang of it. Hopefully, we have cleared up any misunderstandings you may have had about wagering on baseball and are ready to start beating the money lines. If you feel you have a good grasp on the way in which baseball betting odds work, take a look at the odds brought to you by Bodog and start winning today.

How to read Baseball Las Vegas Money Line Odds

Choose one team or the other for the win!

If you’re betting Major League Baseball money line wagers, you will either be cheering for the favorite or the underdog to pick up the victory, as long as the game officially goes past the midway point (through the top of the fifth inning). A game must at least become official, per the rules of MLB, before a winner is determined. And when you are betting the money line, you will either select the favorite or the underdog to win outright, and you needn’t worry about margin of victory. Simple, right?

Baseball Betting Lines Today

Similar to our Run-line and 1st Five Inning Odds, every game on the board shows with pitcher information, as well the Date and Time of the Major League Baseball games of the evening.

Baseball will list Favorites and Underdogs for that day’s games. The Money Line Odds will show the favorite listed with a (-), and the underdogs will be indicated by a (+) symbol. Most betting sites online, as well as all betting apps, will do the math for you. But it’s a rather simple equation based upon $100 wager.

N.Y. Yankees -125 (Bet $100 to win $80)
Tampa Bay +110 (Bet $100 to win $110)

In the above example, N.Y. Yankees is listed as the favorite (-), while Tampa Bay is considered the underdog. If someone making a wager selected the Yankees, favored to win, they would return only $80 on a $100 wager at minus-125. Some books will also offer fractional odds, and in this particular instance the Yankees would be a 4/5 favorite. The decimal format is sometimes listed, especially popular overseas, and the Yankees would be listed at 1.80 on the big board.

Since the Yankees are the favorite, the Rays are considered the underdog and bettors receive a larger return on their initial stake. In the example above, a $100 winning wager on the Rays would return a $210 total, which includes a $110 win and your original $100 stake. The fractional odds for this example would be 11/10, with the Yankees listed at 2.100 with the decimal conversion.
